Competed in both road and speedway races during the 1920's and 1930's, occasionally winning the odd race. Prentiss, a qualified mechanical engineer, designed, built and raced his own Prentiss Special, which was a bobtail racer, before building bigger cars by the time the 1930's came along. As well as races, Prentiss also attempted a number of time trials. One of Prentiss' most notable wins came in 1927, when he won the Fall Speed Classic 10 Mile race at Oakley in Kansas.
