Born:

03 Jan 1956
San Jose, California

Nationality:

United States

Indy 500s:

2 (1991-1994)

The first African-American to drive in the Indy 500, Ribbs raced in the IRL, Trans-Am and the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series before retiring in 2001 to pursue other interests. A single dad, he wrote a book and has business interests and does public and corporate speaking. Now competes, quite successfully, in the Clay Shooting World Championships and in 2011, returned to racing by running an Indy Lights team. This led to an unlikely racing return, after 10 years out, to Indy Lights, but neither racing venture was a huge success, and Ribbs has now left racing again, bar historic events. A film on his remarkable life was released in 2018. The T, by the way, stands for Theodore.
