Died after a long period of ill-health. Ran a garage for a while and was a huge help to Peter Sauber when he set up his team. Retired from racing after marrying, but still followed the sport until his death. Primarily, Xavier was a hillclimb expert, winning the 1972 European Hill Climbing Championship, but he also took a surprise but notable Formula 2 Pries von Deutschland race win at the Nurburgring in 1970. Perrot retired in 1973 to concentrate on his garage, which ended a career that started in 1956, when he did rallying in his home country.
