3-litre Formula 1 Non-championship events 1966-1983

These results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen (allen@oldracingcars.com) if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 23 Aug 1968 pp24-27. Motor Sport September 1968 p788. Motoring News 22 Aug 1968 pp10-11. Speedworld International 24 Aug 1968 pp14-17.

Lotus brought two 49Bs; Tyrrell brought a single Matra MS10; Brabham had all three BT26s, one as a spare; Ferrari also had three cars, with Derek Bell getting a drive; BRM brought Richard Attwood's usual car for Rodriguez and the usual Parnell P126 for Courage, plus an old 2060cc Tasman P261 for Tony Lanfranchi; and only privateers were both BRM V12s: Hobbs in Bernard White's BRM P261 and Bonnier with his McLaren. The withdrawn entries were from McLaren, Honda and Silvio Moser. Entry numbers shown here are from Speedworld International (SWI), which showed that #1, #4 and #16 were not allocated. SWI's preview (17 Aug 1968 p9) showed that these corresponded to the non-arrivals from McLaren, Honda and Silvio Moser respectively. SWI offered some disagreement to Autosport, Motor Sport and Motoring News on chassis identities, listing Rodriguez' P126 as chassis 126-02, the Mexican's usual spare car.

Stewart's Matra now had full-size Lotus-style front wings to balance the rear wing mounted over the engine, and again Stewart dominated the race, his first lap performance implying he had been sandbagging in practice. The other teams were using the same areo setup as at the 'Ring except for BRM who were experimenting with a full wing mounted on the rear suspension uprights.
