3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 25 Sep 1969 pp12-19 (report by David Phipps). Motor Sport November 1969 pp1226,1229,1246 (report by ARM, Andrew Marriott, then Sports Editor of Motoring News). Motoring News 25 Sep 1969 pp12-15 ( (report also by ARM). Sport Auto Novembre 1969 pp58-62 (report by "Elizabeth Hayward", the nom de plume of Priscilla Phipps, journalist, ghost-writer and wife of David Phipps who was reporting on this race for Autosport). Race Report 3 p89 (by Eddie Guba). Motor Sport had chassis numbers only on the grid, as had become the norm in 1969, but ARM also itemised every car in the report.

Matra had the usual three cars, and this time said that Servoz-Gavin would drive the MS84; Lotus had two 49Bs for Rindt and Hill and a 63 for Miles; McLaren the usual two M7-series cars; and BRM brought two P139s for Surtees and Oliver plus a P138 that Bill Brack was allowed to hire. Despite rumours the new Brabham BT33 might be ready, Motor Racing Developments had the usual two BT26As for Brabham and Ickx. Amon and Rodriguez were expected to drive for Ferrari, but the 312B was still not ready so Rodriguez had a 312/69 chassis with '68 engine. Privateers were Walker/Durlacher, Williams, Moser, Pete Lovely in his Lotus 49B, Al Pease in the 1966 Eagle-Climax and John Cordts in a Brabham BT23B, bringing the total to 20 entries and 20 cars, there being no spare cars. The BRM team looked different, with Raymond Mays and "Mr & Mrs Stanley", as Louis Stanley and his wife were always referred to in the press and in BRM correspondence, all missing, along with chief mechanic Alan Challis.
