3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 8 Aug 1969 pp6-13 (report by Patrick McNally). Motor Sport September 1969 pp981,983-984,986 (report by DSJ). Motoring News 7 Aug 1969 pp11-12,14-15 (report by ARM, Andrew Marriott). Sport Auto Septembre 1969 pp25-31 (report uncredited). Race Report 3 p88 (by Eddie Guba). Motor Sport and Motoring News only gave chassis numbers in the report and on the grid, making T cars a little difficult to identify.

Tyrrell-Matra had the usual pair of MS80s and spare 4WD MS84; Lotus had two 49Bs and a 63 for three drivers, Andretti rejoining the team; McLaren just brought the two M7-series cars and left the 4WD M9A at home; BRM arrived with one P139 and one P138; and Ickx had two BT26As again. Ferrari withdrew citing the uncompetitiveness of their cars. Privateers were Walker/Durlacher, Williams, Crabbe and Bonnier, who had his Lotus 49B which was being tended by Tim Parnell's team, bringing the total to 14 entries and 16 cars. Williams had a new sponsor, H. W. Ward & Co, Britain's largest private-owned machine tool maker, who would prove very important to Williams over the coming years. Surtees' BRM P139 was so badly prepared that Surtees would not start the race.

The numbers were made up by a Formula 2 race with a separate grid of eight cars. Motoring News gave chassis numbers of all the F2 cars.
