3-litre Formula 1 Non-championship events 1966-1983

These results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen (allen@oldracingcars.com) if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 4 Apr 1969 pp18-22 (report by Simon Taylor). Motor Sport May 1969 p480 (report by ARM, Andrew Marriott). Motoring News 3 April 1969 pp12-14 (report also by ARM). Autosport identified chassis numbers in the text of the report only, and was still confused by the Ferrari, noting that the nose on the "new" car 0017 was the same as the one on "0009" at Kyalami. ARM in Motor Sport did not give any chassis number data but clarified that "the new [Ferrari] had first been seen in South Africa but there it had travelled incognito to get around Customs difficulties". Writing for Motoring News as well, ARM had more space in the newspaper and gave chassis numbers on the grid.

The line up was previewed to be as at Brands Hatch two weeks earlier, with the addition of two Ferraris for Amon and Derek Bell. The privateers this time were due to be the Walker/Durlacher Lotus, Frank Williams' Brabham, Bonnier's McLaren-BRM and a Cooper-Maserati belonging to dealer Colin Crabbe for Vic Elford to drive. Neither of the works BRMs turned up, as the 4-valve BRMs were not giving the expected power, nor did Bonnier's McLaren-BRM. That left a field of 14, wth Stewart having the only T car. The BRM entries for Surtees and Oliver would presumably have been 5 and 6 on the entry list.
