3-litre Formula 1 Non-championship events 1966-1983

These results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen (allen@oldracingcars.com) if you can help with our research.

Individual sources for this event

Autosport 26 Mar 1970 pp16-21 (report by Simon Taylor). Motoring News 26 Mar 1970 pp12,24 (report by ARM, Andrew Marriott). The Motor Racing Year No 2 p129-132 (by Anthony Pritchard). Motoring News itemised all the cars present, and gave their chassis numbers in the listing of practice times. Autosport mentioned the identities of all the cars, but did not include the data tables used in GP reports.

Tyrrell entered just Stewart, but he had both the team's March 701s at his disposal, and Jack Brabham also had both Brabham BT33s. McLaren and Hulme had their pair of M14As, and the team also brought the only McLaren M7A that hadn't been sold off for Peter Gethin to drive. Oliver and Eaton had their Kyalami BRMs, and Rindt, Amon and Beltoise represented Lotus, March and Matra respectively. Privateers Walker and Surtees were also present, Surtees' McLaren M7C having acquired bulbous side tanks. All these cars had appeared at the South African GP except for Gethin's McLaren and two privateers out for the first time, Pete Lovely with his white-and-blue Lotus 49B and Derek Bell in Tom Wheatcroft's Brabham BT26A, looked after by the Church Farm Racing Team. 16 cars were on hand for 14 drivers.
