3-litre Formula 1 World Championship events 1966-1985

These 1966 to 1985 results were initially compiled by Allen Brown, but these were in the very basic form required to track individual car histories. Since then further details, such as laps completed, qualifying times and so on, have been added from Rob Ryder's extensive database.

All comments, clarifications, corrections and additions are most welcome. Please email Allen at allen@oldracingcars.com if you can help with our research.

At this race Lotus, Ferrari, Brabham, McLaren, Tyrrell and Surtees each had two entries. STP-March had three for Peterson, Galli and local driver Niki Lauda. BRM went one better with four, for Siffert, Ganley, local driver Helmut Marko, and surprise signing Peter Gethin. The privateers were Frank Williams, Clarke-Mordaunt-Guthrie and Jo Bonnier, who now had his own mechanics running his car, giving a total of 22 entries. Matra skipped the race to focus on engine development. Gethin's mid-season departure from McLaren, where he had been No 2 to Hulme, was triggered by the team's decision to run Mark Donohue as No 2 driver in the North American races, leaving Gethin out of work. Gethin was a perfect permanent replacement at BRM for Rodriguez, dropping Ganley back down to No 3 driver. Pritchard noted that the Williams March 711 had a new monocoque for this race, fabricated by Maurice Gomm. The spare cars were Andretti's Ferrari, present although the Italian-American was busy at Milwaukee and used by both Ickx and Regazzoni, who raced it; Stewart's Tyrrell 001 as ever; Siffert's second BRM P160; and a spare Surtees TS9 which stayed in the transporter; so 26 cars were present. BRM had a short-stroke V12 in Siffert's "slimline" 160-03, but he raced his regular 160-02 with Mk II engine instead.
