Chevron B24 'B24-73-05B'

Much of the information relating to this car was received from Jack Boxstrom in January 2001 and is based on entires from the log book, still with the car and dated 20 March 1974. The log book refers to the car as number "B 24 5 A".

1974 - James Dunkel

Jack Boxstrom noted that:

This car replaced his previous B24 which he "wrote off" at Road Atlanta in 1973. He tried to order a Lola but Carl Haas, the importer, did not keep to his delivery date and so he ordered and received another B24 on short notice.

According to the logbook Dunkel's first race was the Mid-Ohio F5000 Championship Round on 1 June 1974. He advertised it shortly afterwards but it seems it did not sell and he retained it for 1975.

1975 - James Dunkel

According to the log book, Dunkel's last race in the B24 was the Road America SCCA June Sprints on 21 June 1975. Here Dunkel had started the race well, in third place behind the Lola T330 of Jerry Hansen and the T332 of Tuck Thomas, but he withdrew in bizarre circumstances when:

the water pipe on his Chevron ruptured, scalding his back, arm and legs. He was immediately rushed by helicopter to Milwaukee's St Mary's Burn Center with second degree burns. (Formula magazine August 1975 p29.)

It is hardly a surprise that Dunkel did not race the car again.

1976 - Ed Kasprowicz

Kasprowicz bought the car on 16 August 1976 according to the log book. He first raced the car just eleven days later in the Road America F-5000 event.

1982 - Steve Bollinger

The log book reports that Steve Bollinger bought the car on 3 January 1982. Bollinger, of Birmingham, MI, advertised the car in Autoweek in March 1982 (Autoweek 29 Mar 1982 p34).

1982 - Randy Reso

The next name in the log book is a Randy Reso, possibly a dealer, who bought the car on 30 April 1982.

1982 - Rupert Bragg-Smith

At the end of that year, on 23 December 1982 according to the log book, Rupert Bragg-Smith purchased the car and converted it for use in the Can-Am series.

1987 - Jack Boxstrom

With Can-Am now over, Bragg-Smith sold the car to Jack Boxstrom (on 8 December 1987).

1992 - Dick Leppla

In December 1992, Boxstrom sold the Chevron to Dick Leppla who was then Chevron importer.

1997 - Jack Boxstrom

In February 1997, Boxstrom re-purchased the Chevron.
