Alphabetically, the first of all the GP drivers, George was involved in the car industry in various means for a good number of years, and HWM Motors still runs on today. Both parents were American and George spent 3 years growing up in the country until his father's early death. He died, peacefully, after a heart-attack, in retirement, at his home in Ibstone. George also won a DFC during the war, serving as a decorated bomber pilot, but suffered as a POW in a Nazi concentration camp. He started racing in 1934 but retired after both John Heath's death and also because he was newly married. Later undertook powerboating after his racing career.
