Former engineer to Gerhard Berger in his racing days, who joined up with his old driver to become Technical Director of STR in 2007. Left the role five years on, and now works for Brembo, a brakes supplier to F1, as their technical director. Ascanelli started his racing career back in the mid 1980's with Ferrari, before a spell with Fiat and their Abarth rallying team. Giorgio also worked at Benetton, becoming Nelson Piquet's race engineer before switching to McLaren, with the intention of joining Berger again, but Giorgio ended up working with Ayrton Senna instead. He returned to Ferrari in 1994 and spent many years there before joining Maserati as competitions director.
