Jody became Toro Rosso's chief technical director in 2019 after James Key moved to McLaren. Eggington started in Formula 1 and motorsport in a junior role for Tyrrell before working in a range of other motorsport-linked roles; he was a gearbox design engineer for Xtrac gearboxes and he also worked for Opel Team Holzer in a number of varying roles. He returned to Formula 1 in 2005 with Jordan as a race engineer and then stayed in that role as the team became different entities; Midland, Spyker and then Force India. Eggington joined Caterham as chief engineer in 2010 before becoming technical operations director. In 2014, he joined Toro Rosso as Head of Vehicle Performance, before moving up the ranks until his promotion in 2019.
