Until 2014, Luca was still Chairman, President and CEO of Ferrari and Maserati and he oversaw the sporting and automotive branches of all these firms. De Montezemolo was also the chairman of the F1 Teams Association. He went for a role completely away from cars, and became chairman of the Etihad Alitalia airline in an effort to turn around their fortunes, but left in 2017. De Montezemolo was also the co-founder of NTV, a privately operated high-speed train company. He remains a consultant to Ferrari, businesses and sporting operations in Italy.
