Now a long-time resident in the UK, he lives in Oxfordshire, where he is still working as a consultant designer and engineer. Full name is Shahabuddin. Shahab previously worked for many years in the US, where he gained an engineering degree and took up citizenship there. As well as his F1 designing spells, he also had roles with March, Tyrrell, Ensign and Fittipaldi in the sport. For a while, Shahab worked with long-time friend and ex-Surtees colleague Peter Connew at the Ford Technical Centre in Dunton. Ahmed still attempts to attend any historic event featuring one of the cars he designed or had involvement in and keeps links to the sport. Although born in India, Ahmed has always considered himself of Pakistani origin.
