His studies and graduation were disrupted by World War 2 and then National Service, and so Georges was nearly 30 when he started in the car industry, with Simca. Started off in the quality control department, before moving swiftly into the engine department. In 1966, he joined Matra, where he was behind their huge success in Formula 1 and sportscars in particular. Stayed with Matra until the end of 1981, but after his engines were unwanted for the 1982 season, Martin ended his association with the sport for a while. Later wrote a book about his career, and in more recent years had been seen at some historic festivals. He died in 2017.
