For years, Caliri worked as a sports vehicle designer and developer, and is head of a major Italian technical committee. Also is the president of technical firm, Expotechina. Caliri now lives in Modena. Caliri is a fully qualified mechanical engineer who started his designing career in the mid 1960's, working for Ferrari on a range of cars and karts; including the marque's sportscar, Formula 2 and Can-Am cars, and then onto the engineering side of their Formula 1 cars. After a spell with Luigi Marmiroli at Fly Studio, which Giacomo co-founded with Marmiroli, he then worked at Minardi. In 1988, Giacomo became technical director at Maserati, being in charge of their road car designs. Caliri worked in design full-time until the late 2000's, but in recent years has focused on running his own technical automobile museum on the outskirts of Modena.
