Retired in the early 1990's, after a long career, to make wine, establishing his business with his wife in 1992. His many wines, from the Lewis Cellars, are currently produced at the Napa Wine Company in Oakville. He sold the company in 2021 but continues to run his company. Randy has more focus on the vineyards and the winemaking itself. Lewis raced for over twenty years which included a spell in Europe, which is where he picked up his love for wines. Lewis also raced in Formula 5000 and Can-Am and had a best finish of thirteenth at the Indianapolis 500. Lewis' full name is actually John Ranson Lewis III. Although born in California, Lewis grew up in Atlanta, and lived for a while in Florida and Tennessee. Lewis and the family took a prestigious award in 2016, winning Wine of the Year from Wine Spectator magazine for his 2013 Lewis Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley wine.
