Sadly, Larry committed suicide at home. Also ran a restaurant in Bristol, but financial problems perhaps contributed to his suicide. Other factors were the fact his racing career was over due to his father's death in 1977 (Larry McCoy Sr. was the manager of Larry's racing team and funding disappeared with his death), but also Larry suffered from a neurological problem which left him unable to live a normal life and affected him being able to drive. Larry was a USAC regular in the 1970's, with his best finish being 12th place at the Pocono Raceway event in 1974.
