A star of the IRL, with three titles and and an Indy 500 to his credit, he left the series in 2007, to race in NASCAR in 2008 onwards. Remained in the series until 2015, but then took a break from racing. In 2017, he returned to racing with Penske in NASCAR again. Hornish moved up the ranks of American feeder racing like so many others, including karts and Toyota Atlantic, before making the IRL, where he eventually won 19 times in 116 starts. Hornish has also raced in one-off sportscar events, including the Daytona 24 hours, in recent years. Although he has not retired, Hornish is now spending time raising his young family, working as a substitute teacher, does speaking engagements, does construction and carpentry work, runs a bible study class and is involved in the Hornish family trucking and logistical services company.
