One of the best ARS drivers never to make it to the Indianapolis 500, Millen had enjoyed a long career before his tenure in the series. In 1986, 1988 and 1989, he won the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Grand Prix Grand National Sports Truck Championships. Steve also competed in the World Rally Championship before becoming a sportscar regular. He won the 1992 and 1994 IMSA GTS titles before having to retire in 1995 as a consequence of a huge crash. Since then, he has worked as a stunt driver and run Stillen, an aftermarket parts company for Nissan cars. He has also designed and been an engineer for hillclimbing cars. His brother Rod is an expert hillclimber, and his nephew Rhys has competed in drifting for some years.
