Formed a car company in 1983, which now manufactures limited edition, but high quality vehicles. As well as commercial success on the roads, it has done well in racing, particularly GT's. Steve, who lives in California, left his own company in 2007 to set up SMS, a high-performance car manufacturer. Saleen worked for his father's manufacturing business before obtaining a business degree. Saleen started racing in club events in his own Porsche before competing in Formula Atlantic, Trans-Am and sportscars. Steve also ran his own team in tandem with fellow racer Bob Bondurant and television personality, Tim Allen. Although Saleen left his own business in 2007, he is still involved as a consultant to the firm. He surprisingly returned to racing in the GT4 America Series with his own team in 2022.
