Killed in a 300 Mile race when he was badly injured in a three-car crash at the Sioux City Speedway, dying of his injuries after being in a coma for a day. Dirt track racer who also worked as a chauffeur, Cox grew up and worked on a farm in Ohio with parents William and Martha initially. He grew up near Lewisburg, but was born in Randolph, Ohio. He then based himself in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he competed in a number of races, including some road races in the mid 1910's. Cox's only Indianapolis start didn't last that long, with him dropping out with mechanical issues after just twelve laps.
