Former National Champion, who later became a team manager. He also, after racing, for a short time toured with a vaudeville group as a tap dancer! Hearne was the heir to an Illinois gold mine which allowed him the funds to go racing, which he started doing in 1908. However he proved that he was also adept and won the 1911 Cincinatti Trophy and did well on board tracks before specialising on dirt tracks. Greatly affected by his friend Howdy Wilcox's death, Hearne finally ended his long and largely accident-free career in 1927.
