Born:

15 Jul 1929
Edinburgh, Scotland

Died:

19 Mar 2017
Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland

Nationality:

Great Britain

Grands Prix:

1 (1953)

Sadly died in 2017 after a long illness. He had retired from the family agricultural business, but kept involved in the industry for many years, specialising in sheep farming. Retired early due to this, and other, business pressures just as his sportscar career with Jaguar was really taking off. Until his death, Ian remained, in different forms, involved in the historic side of the sport (including an appearance at Bo'ness in 2012), until his death and remained as alert and enthusiastic about everything, as he ever was, despite his health problems and advanced age. Stewart was also an avid slot car fan - he not only raced and tuned the cars, but had a massive slot car track at his farmhouse; for many years, his good friend Innes Ireland would also take part in that and shooting, which Ian also enjoyed. Stewart also became, in the 1970's, the first Ferrari distributor in Scotland, after linking up with Maranello Concessionaires.
