Paralysed after a racing crash in the late 1940's, he never fully recovered from his injuries. Later ran a sprint car team, with brother Marshall. Hansen was an immensely successful midget racer who was often known as the Firecracker Kid for his love of fireworks and setting them off at somewhat inopportune moments! Competitive for most of his career, he had a notable in in 1939, winning the famous Turkey Night GP at Gilmore Stadium and then won two key AA races in 1948 and 1949 at Atlanta and Springfield. Hansen also won the URABC West Coast Midget title in 1945.
