Lived in South Africa for years, but died in 2012 after a long battle with ill-health. Son of the the great Sammy, the Bentley boy/journalist. Colin was based in both the UK and the continent during his career and won both the Targa Florio in 1964 and the International Formula Junior title in 1960 - a series in which he excelled. He retired due to business and family reasons in 1966. Later worked as a broadcaster on South African television working as a film and book critic, having moved to South Africa in 1976 from Italy. Colin began his career in 1954 in a Cooper Norton 500. He moved to Italy in 1956 after his parents split up. His mother, who had worked in Italy as a singer some years before, returned there and it was in Italy he performed well enough to have an agreement with the OSCA team which was run by the Maserati brothers.
