Retired from driving soon after his last Indy to take up a role in the family firm, which is well known in the US as Howdy's grandmother invented 'Jiffy Mix', which is a ready-baking mix for biscuits etc. Howdy is the President and CEO of the company, collectively known as the Chelsea Milling Co., based in Chelsea, Michigan. Whilst racing, he also ran a sports marketing company after graduating with a Business Management degree from Eastern Michigan State University. During his working life, Howdy also has worked as a racing school instructor and as a mechanic for a race preparation company. He has also become a successful after-dinner speaker and motor racing author.
