Now retired after a long career. His last drives were in Grand-Am in the late 2000's, but his racing took in numerous series, with two IMSA (GTO class) titles - in 1989 and 1991 - probably being the highlight of his career. Pete was (or rather still is) also an excellent pilot who served in Vietnam as an electronic technican. Also works as a tuner and still lives in Michigan. As well as IMSA, Halsmer was a frequent winner in Trans-Am and earlier on in his career in Super Vee. Halsmer came 2nd at Cleveland in CART in 1983, which was the closest he came to victory in a stop-start single-seater career.
