Was in an array of series including stockcars and off-road racing, Busch, Grand-Am and A1 GP races, before beginning to establish himself in the IRL and has now been in there for a while, winning the title in 2012. In 2014, he won his first Indianapolis 500, and remained in the Indycar Series until 2021, remaining with the Andretti team. In 2022, he moved into the Superstar Racing Experience series, but returned to Indianapolis and the '500 in 2023 and 2024, as well as some Indycar races. Hunter-Reay is also a cancer charity fundraiser and spokesman, after his mother died of the disease in 2009.
