Former employee of Riley who bought the Lea-Francis company in 1931, where they made motorcycles and cars until going out of that specific area of business in 1963. Rose was invovled with the sport on and off for some while, including providing and designing engines, but also cylinder heads for sportscars. Hugh's son Ken also raced and built cars, designed engines and ran a car accessory firm. Hugh, born Raymond Hugh Rose was still technical director of Cosmic Car Accessories at his death. He also worked as draughtsman with Sunbeam, for whom he later designed cars for. Worked with Lea Francis until 1959. He was also chief Designer with Belsize Motors, Crossley Motors and Calthorpe Motors successively before joining Bean Cars as a technical adviser.
