After studying in both France and England, Laurent initially worked for Asiatech in Formula 3 before joining Arrows and Minardi in Formula 1. He worked there as a race engineer for some years, working with Mark Webber and Justin Wilson amongst others. He then became chief engineer in 2006 when the team rebranded as Toro Rosso. In 2014, he became FIA Safety director and then F1 deputy race director in 2017. In 2018, he became sporting director at Ferrari and in 2021, was named as their deputy team principal. He returns to his old team, now the Visa Cash App RB team, as team principal in 2024.
