Texan dirt and track specialist whose full name was William Clarence John McCarver. Lived for a long time in Corscicana, Texas, but moved to Indianapolis to work for Chevrolet, for whom he worked for nearly 20 years. Fought in WW1, and once that was over returned back to Chevrolet, where he worked on race car building and testing. Later moved to Dallas, where he became an used car dealer. Illness forced his retirement in 1957, and led to his death two years later.
