Ferrari test driver, still in the role after a number of years, who was also in the same role with Williams and deputised on a few occasions in Formula 1 for the latter. He also concentrates on his karting circuit and appears at historic or special events for Ferrari. From 2007 onwards, he has been more involved with racing in endurance events and won Le Mans in 2009. Also works in TV as a commentator and pundit. Gene, whilst as a young driver, took the unusual step of gaining a degree - in economics - as well as racing, being based in Buckingham somewhat deliberately to be as close to Silverstone as possible. He was awarded his degree by the former British Prime Minister, Baroness Thatcher. Gene also works as a young driver development coach, teaching them a number of aspects they need away from the track to progress.
