Later went on to run a garage and transport business. During his career, he was better at hillclimbing and sportscars. Now runs an art dealership in the USA, but also lives in Madrid. The son of a surgeon (who was a good friend and occasional doctor to Jochen Rindt), Soler-Roig didn't started racing until he was well in his 20's and didn't race abroad until 1968, when he was in his mid-30's. Nonetheless, Alex moved up to Formula 1, but found more success in both sportscars - winning his national title in 1970 - and touring cars, where he won the Spanish Touring Car Championship in 1971 and 1972. At the end of that year he decided to retire from racing and initially took over the family private clinic before digressing into other avenues, predominantly art-collecting with his wife. They focused on twentieth century Spanish art, inspiring their son, Miguel, who became a world-renowned artist. Alex also picked up some medical skills from his father and also treated his friend Jochen Rindt at a race in France in 1970.
