Still lives in Wilmington and runs a research and development firm there. Also took part, for many years, in road competition cycling in his spare time. He is also a pilot and keeps links with the sport. His pilot work, along with his wife, includes the Angel Flight Network, where he gives his time and expense to fly sick patients to hospitals, when the patient has no money to fund transport for emergency care. Lunger eschewed his education to compete in racing back in 1965, competing in Can-Am and sportscars. After serving on the front line in Vietnam in the US Marine Corps, he returned to racing in 1971, moving up the ranks to race in Formula 1 for some years.
