For years, Caliri worked as a sports vehicle designer and developer, and is head of a major Italian technical committee. Also is the president of technical firm, Expotechina. Caliri now lives in Modena. Caliri is a fully qualified mechanical engineer who started his designing career in the mid 1960's, working for Ferrari on a range of cars and karts; including the marque's sportscar, Formula 2 and Can-Am cars, and then onto the engineering side of their Formula 1 cars. After a spell with Luigi Marmiroli's Fly Studio, he then worked at Minardi. In 1988, Giacomo became technical director at Maserati, being in charge of their road car designs. Caliri worked in design full-time until the late 2000's, but in recent years has focused on running his own technical automobile museum on the outskirts of Modena.
