Fontanesi had a varied career racing on three different continents; North and South America and then Europe. He competed in sportscars in Europe, competing in the long-distance endurance events like the Nurburgring 1000km and the Spa 24 Hours, racing between 1987 and 1992. He also raced in Italian Formula 3. He married an Italian and has a home there, but lives in Caracas and has land ownership and real estate interests now.
