The nephew of former Formula 1 driver Hans Binder, Rene is another kart graduate who raced mainly in Germany. In was in this country that he moved up the ranks via Formel Masters and Formula 3 before racing in the Palmer run-FIA sanctioned Formula 2 Championship. Rene then became a GP2 regular from 2012 onwards; he competed in seventy-three races, scoring sixteen points. In 2016, he moved to the Formula V8 3.5 Series, where he enjoyed more success. In 2017, he won four races, finishing fourth in the championship and earning himself a move to Indycar in 2018. In 2019, he moved into sportscars, competing in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup as well as other one-off endurance events and continued in the discipline in 2020 in the European Le Mans Series. He remains in various endurance events for 2024, including European Le Mans again.
