Longtime US based female driver, who was in the US from 2006, who then moved up to the IRL in 2010, and stayed there in 2013, with a Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year in 2010 one of the highlights. Made a surprise move to Formula 1 in 2014, joining Sauber as an associate driver, which included testing, with the aim of getting a 2015 race seat. That was initially ticking along fine, but funding issues scuppered her chances. In 2015, she moved back to the US, and the IRL again, albeit not for a full season, but also took up a drive in Formula E, which she continued for the 2015-2016 season. In 2017, Simona went down a completely different route, moving to Australia to compete in the V8 Supercar Series. In 2019, she moved back to America to race in sportscars and in 2020 moved to Formula E, where she is (and remains) a test and development driver for the Porsche Formula E team. In 2021, she moved back again to America to compete at the Indianapolis 500 and to take party in diversity programmes. In 2022, she announced a change of sport, taking up bobsleigh in an attempt to qualify for the Winter Olympics, although she will remain as a racing driver and competed in a few Indycar races.
