Joint German-Austrian citizen, who was head of Porsche AG between 1972 & 1980. Served in WW2, then joined Porsche in 1947, but also got his doctorate for his work on high-speed combustion engines. Engines remained his forte, and although he had left Porsche by their F1 debut, it was still effectively his engine that was used. He then joined Goetze, a car part manufacturing company, before returning to Porsche in 1971, effectively as technical director.
