After his Formula 3000 spell, Helyen was in Champ Car, after a spell in the European Megane Trophy (which he won in 2005) and GT racing. Was then later in Indy Lights, but now in sportscars in America, either in the United Sportscar Championship or the IMSA GT3 Championship. In 2019, he switched to touring cars and the Michelin Pilot Challenge and remained there until 2021, when he moved full-time into the IMSA Sportscar series. He has also been working as a racing instructor for Volkswagen, where he particularly features on kart drivers. He is now based in Tampa, Florida. Heylen was also the winner of the 2002 Formula Ford Festival race after an extensive karting career.
