Of Vietnamese descent, Rob experienced financial problems regards a drive in Formula 3000, despite having a large amount of raw talent. So Rob went to Formula 4000, in Australia in 2004. Since 2005, he has been without a main full-season drive, however, he now races for fun, in high performance sprint and speed cars in Queensland, as well as the annual World Time Attack Challenge event. Nguyen is also a test driver for print and film media.
