Canapino has had a long association with Ricardo Juncos, his countryman, which culminated in an Indycar drive for 2023. Son of the late Alberto, a race engineer and mechanic, Agustin's path to Indycar was quite different to many of his rivals. He made his debut in 2005 in a Renault Megane series, winning the title in 2007 and 2008. The latter was the same year that he made his Argentine touring car debut, a discipline in which he competed for the next 15 years. Between 2010 and 2017, he won all but one of the Top Race V6 titles and won six Argentine touring car titles on top of that between 2010 and 2021. He has also raced in sportscars on occasion. He returned to Indycar in 2024.
