Killed during a race at Ascot Speedway, which ended up being the last ever race held there due to Gordon and his riding mechanic Spider Matlock's deaths. Excellent driver who was 1935 AAA Pacific Coast Champion. Born Edgar Alan, he was also a salesman in a clothing store, a tyre-builder, a postman and a Long Beach nightclub and tavern owner, so racing was only really a part-time venture to earn some more money. Gordon was an extrovert man who despite enjoying partying and alcohol turned in a great performance time after time.
