Father of Al Jr. Raced on until the mid 1990's, although he still drives at historic events. Continues to work closely with his son, but is also the driving coach for the whole Indycar series. Also has numerous business interests and is a regular after-dinner speaker. Al, in 2005, also opened his new racing museum, in New Mexico, where he still lives. Unfortunately Al has been ill lately, but is happily recovering. As a driver, in his long career, he won the 1970 Indycar Championship, the 1983 and 1985 CART titles, the 1978 IROC series and the 1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987 Indianapolis 500. He also won the Daytona 24 Hours in 1985 and all of this occurred despite elder brother Jerry being killed in 1959.
