Son of multi-millionaire builder Donald Bren, Cary soon realised that he was not going to be as successful in his chosen field of racing cars. He is, now however, working in the building business himself, as he was President of California Pacific Homes, but is now a contractor in the real estate and building business. As a racer, Bren appeared in Formula Super Vee for a number of years and also the American Racing Series. He also travelled to New Zealand for a few races in the winter of 1985.
