Still does the occasional endurance and historic event and has appeared in rallying, the Mitjet Series and the Lamera Cup recently after returning to the sport after many years away. Initially left racing in 1988 after a lack of funds meant he couldn't continue his career in the way he wanted to and then became the head of a racing school, before moving back to his hometown to work in the family insurance firm. Gilles was 1982 French Formula Renault Champion.
