F3000 Champion in 2002, he went Stateside and impressed hugely in CART with the Newman-Haas team, winning the title four years in a row between 2004 and 2007. His dream was to race in Formula 1, but it turned into a nightmare, with it lasting just a season-and-a-half. After spells in Formula Superleague and endurance, he went back in the US and Indycars once again, and continued in this series full-time until 2019, when he lost his seat despite being one of the best drivers in the series. He still will race part of the season in 2020, but he had to settle to be in sportscars and the IMSA Sportscar series for most of 2019. In 2021, he returns to Indycar full-time.
