Ribeiro started his career in Formula Turismo, a touring car junior category in Brazil, in which he did very well. He moved across to South American Formula 3 in 2002 and won the title in emphatic style the following year. However his funds were low and although he managed to put together a few races for Formula 3000, there was nothing left to sustain a potentially promising career at any level. He competed for a few years in karts, but no longer races, concentrating on his son Bruno and his fledgling racing career.
